GARMIN eTrex Venture

Hand held GPS receiver with large display, serial interface and city point database.

The GARMIN eTrex Venture is very easy to use thanks to its click stick and user friendly, graphical interface. It supports multiple languages, has a built in city point database and an extremely sensitive antenna, which provides navigation information outdoors, in a car, in a train or even in an airplane (see MapSource examples). The built-in serial interface supports data exchange with a PC.

Features: Portable, robust, to be operated with one hand (buttons are located ergonomically on each side of the unit) Large, easy to read display with background illumination (160x288 pixels) Easy to use thanks to its click stick and user friendly, graphical interface Multilingual user interface in Czech², Danish², Dutch², Finnish², English¹, French¹, German¹, Hungarian², Italian¹, Norwegian², Polish², Portuguese², Spanish¹, and Swedish¹ (¹ requires firmware version V2.21 or later; ² requires firmware version V2.50 or later) Integrated 12 channel GPS receiver with very sensitive built-in antenna Integrated city point database 1 MB memory to store additional city points from CDrom (CDrom available as an option in summer 2001) Powered by batteries (2x AA, last about 20 h) or by an external 12 V power source, e.g. from a car's cigarette lighter (power cord available as an option) Short time to first fix (TTFF¹: approx. 15 seconds after a warm start, meaning there are valid coordinates of the satellites available, or approx. 45 seconds after a cold start, meaning there are no valid coordinates of the satellites available) Supports the following protocols for data exchange with PC: NMEA 0183 with 4800 Baud, GARMIN, GARMIN DGPS, Text, RTCM IN, RTCM/NMEA and RTCM/TEXT DGPS (Differential GPS) ready (GARMIN differential receiver available as an option) Supports more than 100 different datum (coordinate systems) Supports various display formats include the Swiss Grid Firmware stored in Flash-Memory, can be updated by the user Operating temperatures -15 .. 70°C (5° .. 158°F) Serial interface RS-232 (connection cable included) Dimensions: 112x51x30 mm (4.4x2x1.2 inches) Weight: 150 g (5.3 ounces, without batteries) Water resistant up to approx. 3 feet (1 meter) for about 30 minutes ¹) TTFF: Time To First Fix, time until the first information about the local position is acquired.
